Mobile Dog Grooming Questions, Answered
How does mobile dog grooming work?
Mobile dog grooming means the groomer comes to your home in a self-contained grooming van. At Shampoodles, we park in your driveway, your dog steps into the van, and the entire groom happens there. The van carries its own water, power, heating and cooling, so we need nothing from your house.
How long does mobile dog grooming take?
Most appointments take one to two and a half hours, depending on your dog's size, coat and how they handle grooming. A nail trim alone takes about fifteen minutes. A full groom on a matted double-coated dog can take three hours or more.
How much does mobile dog grooming cost in Springfield, MO?
Mobile grooming in the Springfield area generally costs more than a salon groom, because you are paying for one-on-one time and for the groomer to come to you. Exact pricing depends on size, coat type and condition — we give you an estimate before we book.
Do you need access to my water or electricity?
No. Our van carries its own fresh water tank, its own generator and its own climate control. We only need a place to park reasonably close to your door.
Where do you park?
Your driveway or the street directly in front of your home. The van needs roughly the space of a large pickup truck. If you live in an apartment complex or a neighborhood with parking restrictions, let us know when you book and we will figure it out.
What if my dog is anxious or has never been groomed?
Anxious dogs are often the best candidates for mobile grooming, because most grooming anxiety comes from the car ride, the unfamiliar building and the waiting among other dogs — all of which mobile grooming removes. For a first-time or very nervous dog, tell us when you book and we will plan a slower appointment.
Which grooming package should I choose?
Shampoodles offers four packages. The Basic Bath covers a premium bath, blow dry, nail filing, teeth brushing, ear care and a finishing bandana. Bath + Light Trim adds face, paw and sanitary trimming. The Full Service Groom adds a custom haircut and breed styling. The De-Shedding Spa adds a de-shedding treatment and high-velocity blowout for double-coated breeds. Short-coated dogs usually need the Basic Bath; dogs whose hair keeps growing need the Full Service Groom.
Do you groom cats?
Yes. Shampoodles grooms cats in the van, including baths, nail trims, sanitary trims, lion cuts and brush-outs. Most groomers in the Springfield area do not take cats, and bringing a cat into a building full of barking dogs is stressful for the cat, so this is one of the services mobile grooming suits best.
Can I book just one service instead of a full package?
Yes. Any single service can be booked on its own — a nail trim, a bath, a de-matting session, teeth brushing, a face trim. Tell us what your pet needs when you call and we will put together exactly that. Booking single services may incur an additional fee to help cover our time and travel costs. We will discuss this when booking.
What are your hours?
Shampoodles is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We can often arrange appointments outside those hours — call and ask.
How often should my dog be groomed?
Most dogs with hair that keeps growing — poodles, doodles, shih tzus, schnauzers — need a full groom every four to eight weeks. Short-coated breeds may only need a bath and brush every couple of months. Double-coated breeds need regular de-shedding rather than haircuts. We will tell you what your dog actually needs.
Should I shave my double-coated dog in summer?
No. Double coats insulate against heat as well as cold, and shaving one can permanently change how it grows back. Huskies, german shepherds, golden retrievers and australian shepherds should be de-shedded, not shaved. A proper de-shedding treatment removes the loose undercoat and keeps the dog far more comfortable than a shave would.
What areas do you serve?
Shampoodles serves Springfield, Missouri and 18 surrounding communities: Nixa, Ozark, Battlefield, Republic, Willard, Strafford, Rogersville, Marshfield, Ash Grove, Clever, Billings, Pleasant Hope, Bolivar, Buffalo, Lebanon, Monett, Aurora and Osage Beach.
Do I need to be home during the appointment?
Yes, we ask that you are home. We need you there to hand off your dog and to talk through anything we find, and most people prefer to be there anyway.
How far in advance should I book?
We generally book two to three weeks out. If you need a standing appointment on a regular cycle, ask when you call — we hold a number of recurring slots for regular clients.
How do I book?
